Dear colleagues

This is to cordially invite you to the panel discussion titled “The EU as a Geopolitical Actor in the Western Balkans: An Assessment”. The event will take place on Monday, February 12, from 18-19:30h, at the Professor Zdravko Grebo Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Sarajevo (location).

In 2019, when Ursula von der Leyen outlined the priorities of the incoming European Commission, she claimed an aspiration to be the President of a ‘Geopolitical Commission.’ As we approach the end of the Commission's five-year term, the discussion will take stock of the track record of EU policies towards the Western Balkans. During the event, the participants will discuss the state of geopolitical competition in the region and analyze the debate inside the EU concerning the increase of its influence through the reinvigoration of its enlargement policy. The discussion will be followed by a cocktail.

Moderation: Prof. Nikolaos Tzifakis, Jean Monnet Chair in EU Foreign Policy and the Western Balkans, University of the Peloponnese
